description Sayan Steppe Overview
The Sayan Steppe, also called the Sayan intermontane steppe, is a grassland and shrub ecoregion in the Tyva Republic of south-central Siberia, Russia. It is an isolated steppe area surrounded by mountain forests, giving it the character of a grassland island within the Sayan-Altai landscape. The wider Minusinsk and Sayan region is also archaeologically important, with burial and settlement remains from ancient cultures of southern Siberia.
