Ulan-Ude is the capital city of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, situated in eastern Siberia at the confluence of the Selenga and Uda rivers. Founded in 1666 as a Cossack winter settlement, it developed into a major administrative and trading hub for the Trans-Siberian Railway. The city serves as the cultural center of the Buryat people and is located near Lake Baikal. It features notable landmarks such as a large Vladimir Lenin head statue and sits relatively close to the Ivolginsky Datsan, a significant Buddhist monastery.
