The Kingdom of Tooro is a traditional monarchy of the Tooro people in western Uganda. It emerged as a separate kingdom around 1830, when Omukama Kaboyo Olimi I, a son of the ruler of Bunyoro, established an independent Tooro polity. The kingdom was absorbed into Bunyoro in 1876, regained independence in 1891, abolished by Uganda’s republican government in 1967, and restored in 1993.
