Boyden Observatory

description Boyden Observatory Overview

Boyden Observatory is an astronomical observatory and science-education centre at Maselspoort near Bloemfontein in South Africa's Free State. Harvard established the Boyden Station in the Southern Hemisphere, first at Arequipa, Peru, in 1889; the station moved to its present South African site in 1927, not 1958. The facility is managed by the University of the Free State and is associated with optical telescopes, astronomical research, public observing, and education.
