Allegheny River Cruiser

The Allegheny River Cruiser is an insect native to the eastern United States. They are typically found patrolling clear, rocky rivers and streams, particularly in forested or mountainous regions.

You can identify this dragonfly by its distinct yellow-ringed abdomen and its large, hovering flight patterns. They also feature bright green eyes and a dark brown thorax with yellow stripes.

Unlike many dragonflies that prefer still ponds, Allegheny River Cruisers breed specifically in clear mountain rivers. The females deposit their eggs directly into these fast-flowing aquatic environments.
