Angolan Revolution

The Angolan Revolution describes the armed struggle that ended Portuguese colonial rule and the political conflict that followed independence. Angola became independent on 11 November 1975, after which the MPLA, UNITA, and FNLA competed for control, with the conflict becoming entangled in Cold War intervention by Cuba, the Soviet Union, the United States, and South Africa. The resulting civil war continued until 2002, when UNITA ended its armed campaign.
