The Mozambican War of Independence was an armed conflict fought between 1964 and 1975 by the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) against Portuguese colonial rule. Initiated by Eduardo Mondlane, the campaign utilized guerrilla warfare tactics to destabilize and ultimately overthrow the colonial administration. The revolution culminated in the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, leading to Mozambican independence in June 1975. Following the transition of power, FRELIMO leader Samora Machel became the newly independent nation's first president.
