description Arnala Fort Overview
Arnala Fort is a coastal fort on Arnala Island, near Vasai in Maharashtra, India. The Portuguese built the principal fortification in the sixteenth century to control the maritime approaches and coastal movement around the northern Konkan coast. Maratha forces captured it in 1737 during their campaign against Portuguese holdings in the region. The site is enclosed by substantial stone walls and includes structures associated with its former military and religious use.
