Vasai Fort

description Vasai Fort Overview

Vasai Fort is a large Portuguese fortification on the coast near present-day Mumbai, India. The Portuguese built the fort in 1536, and it became part of their network of fortified settlements and ports on the western coast of India. Maratha forces led by Chimaji Appa captured it in 1739 after a major siege. The surviving walls and structures are now studied and visited as historic ruins.
