Aucanquilcha fumaroles

description Aucanquilcha fumaroles Overview

Aucanquilcha fumaroles are high-altitude gas vents on Aucanquilcha, a volcanic mountain in northern Chile's Antofagasta Region. The volcano rises to about 6,176 metres in the Andes and is known for persistent fumarolic activity near its summit. Sulfur mining was carried out at unusually high elevations on the mountain, with workings reaching roughly 5,950 metres. The fumaroles reflect continuing heat and gas release from the volcanic system.
