Guallatiri fumaroles

description Guallatiri fumaroles Overview

Guallatiri fumaroles are vents that release steam and volcanic gases from Volcan Guallatiri in northern Chile. Guallatiri is an ice-clad composite volcano in the Andes with an elevation of about 6,071 metres, and fumaroles occur near its summit and on the south flank. The vents can produce visible white vapor and areas of sulfur-rich alteration around openings. The volcano's last known eruption is listed as 1960, while repeated fumarolic observations show that its summit system remains geothermally active.
