What are virtual interfaces on Direct Connect?
Each physical connection is carved into logical interfaces: a private virtual interface reaches your VPC, a public virtual interface reaches AWS public services like S3, and a transit virtual interface connects to a Transit Gateway linking many VPCs. This lets one circuit carry both private and public AWS traffic.
How is Direct Connect priced compared to internet egress?
You pay hourly port charges based on speed plus per-GB data transfer rates, and outbound data transfer over Direct Connect is significantly cheaper per gigabyte than standard internet egress from the same region. That egress saving is why heavy data-export workloads often justify the circuit.
