description Bauska Castle Overview
Bauska Castle is a fortified complex in Bauska, Latvia, at the confluence of the Mūsa and Mēmele rivers. The older section was built by the Livonian Order between about 1443 and 1456 as a regional military stronghold. In the sixteenth century, a Renaissance palace was added when Bauska belonged to the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia. The surviving ruins and restored palace now form a museum site presenting the history of the Livonian Order, Courland, and the town.
