description Chlemoutsi Castle Overview
Chlemoutsi Castle is a thirteenth-century fortress near Kyllini in the western Peloponnese of Greece. It was built in the early 1200s by the Frankish Principality of Achaea and was also known as Clermont or Kastro Tornese. The castle occupies a hill above the Ionian coast and has a strong inner citadel surrounded by an outer enclosure. Its relatively intact walls and buildings make it an important surviving example of Crusader-era military architecture in Greece.
