Blue-faced Darner

The Blue-faced Darner (Coryphaeschna adnexa) is primarily found in tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. Its range extends from Central America down into parts of South America. They are typically spotted around ponds, marshes, and other still-water habitats.

The Blue-faced Darner is a large dragonfly species belonging to the Aeshnidae family. This family is commonly known as the darner or hawk dragonflies, characterized by their large eyes and robust bodies. Members of this family are known to be highly active, agile predators.

As its name suggests, the Blue-faced Darner is notable for its prominent blue facial coloration. It features a large, robust brownish or greenish body with thoracic stripes typical of the Aeshnidae family. Their size and distinct face make them somewhat identifiable in their native tropical habitats.

While primarily a tropical species found in Central and South America, the Blue-faced Darner's range does occasionally expand northward. It is recorded in extreme southern parts of the United States, particularly in Florida and Texas. These sightings are usually of vagrant individuals dispersing from their core tropical populations.
