description Chichictara Geoglyphs Overview
The Chichictara Geoglyphs are a series of ancient ground drawings located on the hillsides and plateaus near the town of Palpa in southern Peru. Predating the more famous Nazca Lines, they were created largely by the Paracas culture beginning around 400 BCE. Unlike the Nazca Lines which are situated on flat plains, the Palpa geoglyphs frequently occupy sloped terrain and feature numerous anthropomorphic figures, orcas, and geometric designs. They are thought to represent local deities or family markers and can be viewed clearly from the adjacent valley floor.
