Llipata Geoglyphs

The Llipata Geoglyphs are located near Llipata in Peru's Ica Region. They are desert ground markings in the same broad cultural landscape as the better-known Nazca geoglyphs.

They are related to the wider tradition of pre-Columbian desert geoglyphs, but they are associated with the Llipata area rather than simply being the central Nazca plateau. Their discovery extends the known range of ancient markings in the region.

Like other desert geoglyphs, they are formed by modifying the surface of the ground to create visible lines or figures. The arid environment helps preserve these markings over long periods.

The geoglyphs are associated with related pre-Columbian cultures of southern Peru. Their relationship to the Nazca tradition is part of the archaeological interest, although individual dates and makers should be treated cautiously unless confirmed by a specific study.
