The DB Class 232, commonly known as the "Ludmilla," is a class of six-axle Co'Co' heavy diesel-electric locomotives originally built in the Soviet Union for East German railways (Deutsche Reichsbahn) beginning in 1973. Manufactured at the Voroshilovgrad Locomotive Works, these 3,000-horsepower locomotives were designed for heavy freight and passenger services on non-electrified lines. Following German reunification, they were absorbed into the Deutsche Bahn fleet.
