description DELF/DALF (French Language) Overview
help DELF/DALF (French Language) FAQ
What is the difference between DELF and DALF levels?
DELF covers four independent diplomas, A1 through B2, while DALF covers the two advanced diplomas, C1 and C2. Both are official French Ministry of National Education diplomas, and France Education International says they are valid for life.
Which DELF or DALF level is used for French university applications?
DELF B2 is a common threshold for entry to French, European or Francophone universities, and France Education International notes that DALF C1 is increasingly used as well. The exact requirement comes from each institution, but B2 and C1 are the commonly relevant levels.
What skills are tested in the DELF/DALF exam?
The official exams cover listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written production and oral production or interaction. The certificate is awarded at a chosen CEFR level, such as DELF A2 or DALF C1, rather than from one single grammar score.
