Drew Westen

The Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure, commonly called SWAP-200, is a clinician-rated personality assessment associated with Drew Westen and Jonathan Shedler. It uses a structured set of descriptive items to represent personality patterns in clinical cases.

Drew Westen was an American psychologist and academic at Emory University. His research connected clinical personality diagnosis with unconscious processes and political cognition.

SWAP-200 is designed for trained clinical assessment rather than casual self-scoring on a website. It uses roughly 200 descriptive items to build a profile of personality functioning and diagnostic patterns.

Westen also studied unconscious processes in clinical psychology and the emotional structure of political thinking. His 2007 book The Political Brain examined how emotion influences political judgment and behavior.
