description Emu Overview
The emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) is a large, flightless ratite native to Australia. Adults can stand about 1.6 to 1.9 metres tall, and the species occurs across much of mainland Australia, from coastal regions to alpine areas. Emus eat fruits, seeds, shoots, insects, and other small animals; the male incubates the eggs and remains with the chicks after hatching.
