description Fort Fredrick Overview

Fort Frederick, also known as Fort Fredrick, is a coastal fortification at Trincomalee in northeastern Sri Lanka. The Portuguese built it in 1624 at the entrance to a strategic harbor, and the Dutch and British later controlled and modified the site. The fort occupies the headland of Swami Rock, and the Koneswaram Temple stands within the historic precinct above the sea.
