Galium Sphinx

description Galium Sphinx Overview

The Galium sphinx, Hyles gallii, is a hawk moth in the family Sphingidae with a broad range across parts of North America, Europe, and Asia. Adults have streamlined bodies and long forewings marked with pale longitudinal bands, while the caterpillars can occur in green or dark color forms and bear a rear horn typical of sphingid larvae. The larvae feed on bedstraws in the genus Galium and also use several other herbaceous host plants, so their diet is not limited exclusively to bedstraw.
