Hammer Petroglyphs

description Hammer Petroglyphs Overview

The Hammer Petroglyphs are a rock-art locality in the Beitstad area of central Norway, near other prehistoric carvings at Bardal, Skjevik, Homnes, and Tessem. They belong to Norway's broader petroglyph tradition, which includes a northern hunter-associated tradition and later agricultural carvings from the Bronze Age and early Iron Age. The site is chiefly of interest for its engraved animal imagery, including elk figures, and for the study of how rock art was placed within prehistoric landscapes.
