help HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate FAQ

What is the format of the Terraform Associate exam?

It is a remotely proctored, multiple-choice exam lasting about an hour, currently delivered as the (003) version. Questions cover HCL basics, providers, state management, modules, variables, and workspaces rather than vendor-specific console tasks.

Do I need hands-on experience or prerequisites to take the Terraform Associate?

There are no formal prerequisites — anyone can book the exam. HashiCorp does recommend roughly six months to a year of practical Terraform experience, and the exam is deliberately provider-agnostic, covering AWS, Azure, and GCP workflows equally.

How long does the Terraform Associate certification stay valid?

It is valid for two years from the date you pass. To maintain the credential after that, you retake the current version of the exam.
