Jerome Kagan was an American developmental psychologist, born in 1929 and deceased in 2021, whose career was closely associated with Harvard University. He conducted longitudinal research on temperament, including behavioral inhibition, a pattern in which some children respond cautiously or fearfully to unfamiliar people and situations. His work examined both continuity and change across development and helped establish temperament as an important subject in developmental psychology.
