Kachelotplate

The Kachelotplate is a tidal sandflat in the German Wadden Sea, situated near the outer Elbe estuary off the coast of Lower Saxony in northwest Germany. It lies roughly northwest of Cuxhaven and falls within the boundaries of the Wadden Sea National Park of Lower Saxony.

Yes, the Kachelotplate lies within the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was inscribed in 2009 and expanded in 2011 to include the Dutch and Danish portions. The listing recognizes the area as one of the world's most significant intertidal ecosystems.

Public access to the Kachelotplate is highly restricted because it is a protected breeding and resting area for seabirds and seals within the national park. Guided mudflat walking tours known as Wattwandern are available in nearby coastal areas of the Wadden Sea but generally do not extend to the Kachelotplate itself.

The sandflat is an important haul-out and pupping site for harbor seals in the German Wadden Sea. It also serves as a significant resting and feeding area for migratory birds, including species such as oystercatchers, knots, and bar-tailed godwits that pass through the East Atlantic flyway.
