description Khapra Beetle Overview
The khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) is a dermestid beetle native to South Asia and one of the world's most destructive stored-product pests, included on lists of the worst invasive species. Its larvae feed on grain and other dry stored foods, contaminating them with cast skins and body hairs, and they can survive for long periods without food, which makes infestations very difficult to eliminate. Many countries therefore regulate it as a quarantine pest with strict inspection requirements.
