Lapis Satricanus

description Lapis Satricanus Overview

The Lapis Satricanus is a stone bearing an archaic Latin inscription discovered at the site of ancient Satricum in present-day Lazio, Italy. Usually dated to the late sixth or early fifth century BCE, the text records a dedication to the god Mars by associates of Poplios Valesios, a form corresponding to Publius Valerius. Its interpretation and connection with the later Roman figure Publius Valerius Publicola remain debated.
