description Leech Lake Overview

Leech Lake is the third-largest lake entirely within the U.S. state of Minnesota, covering approximately 430 sq km in the north-central region of the state. The lake has an irregular shoreline with numerous bays, peninsulas, and islands, and is situated largely within the Leech Lake Indian Reservation, home to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. The lake is a notable recreational fishery for walleye, muskellunge, and northern pike and hosts the annual Leech Lake Walleye Tournament.
