The Long-billed Starthroat (Heliomaster longirostris) is a hummingbird in the family Trochilidae with a broad distribution from Mexico through Central America and into much of northern and central South America. It has a long, almost straight black bill, a small white spot behind the eye, and a dark metallic purple gorget. These features, together with its range, distinguish it from other starthroats in field references. It feeds on flower nectar and may supplement nectar with small arthropods.
