Melanoplus regalis

It is commonly called the regal grasshopper or regal spur-throat grasshopper. It belongs to the family Acrididae and the large North American genus Melanoplus.

The species is native to North America, with records in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Field references specifically report southeastern Arizona and nearby regions such as southwestern Texas, Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Descriptions report a colorful brown, red, and green body, relatively short wings, and blue hind tibiae. Because Melanoplus contains more than 200 North American species, a photograph alone may not be enough for a firm identification.
