Meteor-M No.2-2 launched on 5 July 2019 from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome aboard a Soyuz-2.1b with a Fregat upper stage. It was placed into a sun-synchronous polar orbit for weather observation.

Why was Meteor-M No.2-2 important to Roscosmos?

It replaced Meteor-M No.2-1 after that spacecraft was lost in the 28 November 2017 launch failure. The replacement restored an important part of Russia's polar-orbit weather-satellite program.

In December 2019, image downlink stopped after the spacecraft's orbit changed and it lost its normal orientation. Roscosmos later attributed the failure to decompression of the thermal-control system, probably caused by a micrometeoroid impact.
