Monturaqui

description Monturaqui Overview

Monturaqui is a meteorite impact crater in Chile's Atacama Desert. It is approximately 460 meters in diameter and formed about one million years ago, during the Pleistocene. The crater lies in an exceptionally dry environment, where limited vegetation and erosion help preserve its bowl-shaped depression and surrounding ejecta. It is studied as a relatively young terrestrial impact site and as an example of crater preservation in an arid desert.
