Mottled Duck

description Mottled Duck Overview

The mottled duck, Anas fulvigula, is a dabbling duck found mainly in the southeastern United States and Mexico. Two commonly recognized populations occur in the United States, including birds associated with the Gulf Coast and Florida, and many are largely resident rather than long-distance migrants. The species resembles the female mallard but has a darker, more uniformly mottled appearance and depends on wetlands, marshes, and coastal habitats.
