description Mount Augustus Overview
Mount Augustus is a large geological formation in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. It is a sandstone and conglomerate anticline, or monocline, that rises about 715 metres above the surrounding plain and reaches an elevation of approximately 1,105 metres. Although often called the world's largest monolith, it is a structurally different formation from a single block of rock such as Uluru.
