Muslin is a plain-weave fabric traditionally made from cotton, ranging from extremely fine and lightweight cloth to coarser utility grades. Its historical production is strongly associated with Bengal and especially Dhaka, whose fine muslins were traded internationally during the Mughal period and afterward. Modern muslin is used for clothing, dressmaking tests, theatrical scenery, culinary straining, medical applications, and household textiles.
