description MV Spice Islander I Overview

MV Spice Islander I was a Tanzanian passenger ferry operating between islands in the Zanzibar archipelago. It capsized and sank during the night of 9 September 2011 while traveling from Unguja to Pemba, with overcrowding widely identified as a central factor in the disaster. More than 200 deaths were officially reported, although uncertainty about the passenger manifest produced substantially higher estimates.
