Nevado de Toluca

description Nevado de Toluca Overview

Nevado de Toluca, also known by its Nahuatl name Xinantécatl, is a large stratovolcano in central Mexico, located about 80 kilometers southwest of Mexico City. Standing at 4,680 meters (15,354 feet), it is the fourth highest peak in Mexico and features a broad summit caldera containing two crater lakes: the larger Laguna del Sol (Sun Lake) and the smaller, deeper Laguna de la Luna (Moon Lake). The volcano has been dormant for over 3,000 years, and its slopes transition from pine and fir forests at lower elevations to alpine grasslands at higher altitudes.
