Nevado Sajama is an extinct stratovolcano situated in the Cordillera Occidental of the Andes in western Bolivia. Rising to an elevation of 6,542 meters, it is the highest mountain in the country and is located within the borders of Sajama National Park. The mountain features dense forests of indigenous queñua trees at its base, which grow at unusually high altitudes. It was first successfully climbed in 1939 by an Austrian expedition led by Wilfrid Kuehm and Josef Prem, who established the route on its northern slopes.
