Nisida

description Nisida Overview

Nisida is a small volcanic island in the Gulf of Pozzuoli, west of central Naples, within Italy's Campi Flegrei volcanic field. It is the remnant of a partly submerged tuff cone produced by explosive interaction between magma and water, and a narrow connection links it to the mainland near Coroglio. Its sheltered crater forms part of Porto Paone, while the island has had military, quarantine, and correctional uses and is not generally operated as a conventional tourist island.
