description NS Class 1700 Overview

The NS Class 1700 is an electric locomotive operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the principal passenger railway of the Netherlands. Built by the French manufacturer Alsthom in cooperation with MTE, the type entered service in the early 1980s and is closely related to the French SNCF BB 7200 family. The locomotives haul intercity and interregional passenger services on the Dutch main-line network, operating under 1.5 kV DC overhead supply. They have been a familiar sight on services radiating from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Utrecht.
