Ornellaia

The prestigious Ornellaia winery is currently owned by the historic Antinori family. The estate has been producing highly acclaimed Super Tuscan red wines in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany since its founding in 1985.

Ornellaia is typically a Bordeaux-style blend heavily featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, which is then blended with Merlot. The winemakers also incorporate smaller, precise amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to add complexity.

The wine undergoes a meticulous winemaking process where it spends around 12 months aging in French oak barriques. It is then held in the bottle for an additional period before release to ensure the complex tannins are fully integrated.

Ornellaia is widely considered one of the top Super Tuscan wines alongside its famous neighbor, Sassicaia. While Sassicaia is primarily known for its elegance, Ornellaia is generally recognized for its richer, more robust profile.
