description Pacific shortfinned eel Overview
The Pacific shortfinned eel (Anguilla obscura) is a freshwater eel in the family Anguillidae. It occurs in rivers and streams on Pacific islands, including Fiji and Samoa, and has relatively small eyes compared with some related eels. Like other Anguilla eels, it has a catadromous life cycle: adults grow in fresh water or estuaries before migrating to the sea to reproduce. Young eels later return to inland waters.
