Who started building the Qutub Minar and when?

Construction of the Qutub Minar was begun in 1199 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, the founder of the Mamluk (Slave) dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. The structure was later expanded by his successor Iltutmish, who added additional stories.

How tall is the Qutub Minar?

The minaret stands approximately 73 meters (around 239 feet) tall, making it one of the tallest brick minarets in the world. Its height is achieved through five diminishing stories, with the lowest having the greatest diameter.

What material is the Qutub Minar made from?

The lower portions are constructed primarily of red sandstone, while the upper two stories use a mix of red sandstone and marble. The entire surface is covered with intricate Quranic inscriptions and decorative geometric and floral carvings.
