Round Ray

description Round Ray Overview

The round ray is a small stingray of the northeastern Pacific Ocean, commonly identified as Urobatis halleri, a coastal species found from California to the Baja Peninsula. It is a benthic ray that rests on sandy or muddy shallows where it can be inadvertently stepped on by waders, and it possesses a venomous tail spine capable of inflicting painful injuries. Adults are modest in size relative to many stingrays, with typical disc widths reported at well under half a meter.
