Seymchan

Meteorite Russia Find Transition Pallasite Iron Iron Pallasite

description Seymchan Overview

Seymchan is a meteorite discovered in Magadan Oblast in northeastern Russia in 1967. The first recovered masses were dominated by iron-nickel metal, but later finds contained substantial olivine-rich regions, leading to its recognition as a pallasite with both metal-rich and crystal-rich lithologies. This variation makes different cut specimens look markedly unlike one another and provides material for studying the relationship between metallic and silicate components in differentiated asteroids.

insights Ranking position

Seymchan ranks #63 of 213 in the Meteorite ranking, behind Krymka, ahead of Springwater.
