Shepherd's purse, Capsella bursa-pastoris, is a small annual or winter-annual plant in the mustard family, Brassicaceae. It is native to Eurasia but now occurs across temperate and subtropical regions worldwide, commonly colonizing cultivated ground, roadsides, and other disturbed sites. The plant is identified by a basal rosette, small white four-petalled flowers, and flattened triangular to heart-shaped seed pods, which give the species its common name.
