description SKF HS6 Overview

Created by Swedish manufacturer SKF, the HS6 is a specialized industrial seal designed to deliver reliable fluid containment and protect rotating machinery from abrasive contamination.

help SKF HS6 FAQ

Can an SKF HS6 be installed without removing the shaft?

Yes, the HS6 is a split all-rubber radial shaft seal that can be placed around an existing shaft. This makes it useful on large machinery where dismantling the shaft assembly would be expensive.

Does the SKF HS6 require a cover plate?

Yes, SKF specifies a cover plate that compresses the seal axially and stabilizes it in the housing bore. The split is normally positioned at the 12 o'clock position during installation.

What lubricants work best with an HS6 split seal?

SKF says its HS split seals perform best with grease or high-viscosity lubricants. Lower-viscosity lubricants can be used when the fluid level remains below the shaft centerline.

How does the HS6 differ from SKF HS7 and HS8 seals?

All three are split, spring-loaded seals with an SKF Springlock groove. HS7 and HS8 add an SKF Springcover, while the HS6 uses an exposed garter-spring arrangement.
