Splendid Geyser

Splendid Geyser is located in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, USA. It sits in the vicinity of the famous Old Faithful area, amidst heavy concentrations of other active thermal features.

When conditions allow, Splendid Geyser is capable of spectacular eruptions that can exceed 60 meters (about 200 feet) into the air. This makes it one of the tallest active geysers in the world, though its eruptions are very rare.

Splendid Geyser is notoriously infrequent and irregular because its eruptions are heavily dependent on the local subterranean water levels and the eruptive cycles of its neighbors. It often goes dormant for years at a time until the complex subterranean plumbing aligns.

While both are located in the Upper Geyser Basin, Splendid Geyser is part of a distinct hydrothermal system and is not synchronized with Old Faithful. Instead, it is part of the Old Faithful subgroup but shares underground water pressure.
